Arcana in Flux: Geometries of Fate
Reimagining Archetypes Through Contemporary Mixed-Media Art
In this series of mixed-media tarot portraits, archetypes of the Major Arcana are reimagined through a contemporary lens.
The Mountain, The Moon, The Hanged (Wo)Man, The Lovers, and The Infinity emerge as hybrid portraits—half human, half geometry—where digital precision meets tactile texture.
Tarot, long regarded as a system of symbols and archetypes, becomes here a framework for reflecting on how meaning evolves across time.
The Hanged (Wo)Man
Tarot’s power lies in its adaptability. Once steeped in medieval allegory and mysticism, its archetypes now shift with each era’s cultural weather. My works echo this dynamism: mountains as summits and obstacles, moons as beacons and illusions, lovers as both union and choice. By layering photography with bold geometric compositions, I translate these archetypes into visual languages of the present. Triangles suggest ascension and balance, circles evoke cycles and wholeness, and inversions confront sacrifice, liminality, and transformation.
This body of work positions tarot as both an ancient symbolic language and a living, contemporary form. The portraits carry a bold visual clarity, designed to resonate in a gallery space—striking at a distance, intricate upon close view. Each card stands as an autonomous piece, yet collectively they form a larger narrative arc that mirrors the tarot’s original role as a sequence of archetypal journeys.
By blending portraiture with geometric abstraction, the series embodies hybridity: where the human figure collides with digital structure, where the timeless intersects with the shifting. It reflects our current moment of fluid identities, mutable symbols, and cultural reauthoring. The project is at once a meditation on transformation and an invitation for viewers to see themselves refracted within these archetypes.
